Early Treatment (Phase One)

What is early orthodontic treatment, and why is it recommended?
Early treatment, also known as Phase One, typically begins around ages 7-10 when a child’s jaw is still developing. The goal is to address issues like crowding, bite misalignment, and improper jaw growth early on to prevent more complex problems in the future.
Signs that your child may need early treatment include difficulty biting or chewing, mouth breathing, thumb-sucking, speech difficulties, or teeth that do not meet properly. Our comprehensive exam will help identify any developmental concerns and determine the best course of action.

Common appliances in Phase One treatment include:

  • Expanders: To create space and correct crossbites.
  • Myobrace: To guide jaw growth and improve airway health.
  • Space maintainers: To prevent shifting of teeth after early extractions.

Early treatment typically lasts between 18 to 24 months and includes periodic growth check-ins. Phase 2 will begin once the patient is ready, depending on their individual needs.

Full Phase Integrative Orthodontics

What is integrative orthodontics?
Integrative orthodontics focuses on more than just straightening teeth. It includes assessing airway health, jaw alignment, and overall facial growth to ensure long-term health and optimal function. This approach is beneficial for both children and adults.
  • Braces: Traditional metal or clear options.
  • Clear Aligners: A discreet alternative to braces.
  • Expanders: To widen the palate and improve airway function.
  • Functional Appliances: To guide jaw growth and improve bite alignment.
  • Myobrace: For correcting oral habits and supporting optimal jaw development.
Absolutely! Adults can still achieve functional, healthy smiles with integrative orthodontics. Treatment focuses on improving jaw alignment, breathing, and overall bite function in addition to creating a beautiful smile.

Full phase treatment varies in length based on the individual, but often takes place over an extended period to ensure optimal results.

General FAQs

How often will I need to come in for appointments?
Appointments are typically scheduled every 4 or 6-8 weeks, but it may vary depending on your treatment plan and appliance type.
  • Brush after every meal using a soft-bristle toothbrush.
  • Floss daily using a floss threader or water flosser.
  • Avoid sticky, crunchy, or hard foods to prevent damage.
  • For aligners, rinse them regularly and brush gently to keep them clean.
It’s normal to feel some discomfort after getting new braces or aligners. This usually subsides within a few days and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
